Life in a camper on the road

We are adjusting quite well to life on the road. The camper has everything we need, just less inventory than we are used to.  We have to work a little to 'hook up' to services, when we want, but the unit supports our needs very well going free-style.

Our sleep schedules are a little wacked because sunrise is 4:30 and sunset is 10:00. It is still light out past that. We are still moving north, and the days are naturally getting longer, so it is noticeably different one day to the next.  Might be time to start using the blackout curtains.  The early sunrise does make it easy to hit the road early. That’s the plan for tomorrow – Dawson Creek (Mile zero on the AlCan) to Fort Nelson- about 300 miles.  We’ll be without internet and likely phone, for most of the next several days.

Several people have e-mailed asking for information and pictures on how our 'house'is working out.  Here are some pictures of how we’ve organized ourselves:

Bedroom is in the back with picture windows on all 3 sides

There is a three burner stove, small double sink, oven, and microwave

There are overhead compartments on the insider perimeter of the unit.  They look like this:

We took a whole wall bathroom mirror off, and installed a bathroom cabinet, a paper towel dispenser, Kleenex dispenser, soap and hand sanitizer dispenser and toothbrush holder.  Much more functional in keeping loose items contained while moving down the road:

We built a charging station under the skylight to charge small solar items - radio, assorted laterns and lights:

We built splasbacks by the sink and stove to protect the walls, and to mount items for ready access - again limiting the amount of 'stuff' that hangs around on limited countertop space, and for ease of stowing:

We have very limited wardrobe space, which is chock-a-block full with his side/her side drawers, our towels and linens, and rain gear.  Small, but big enough for what we need.

And two paintings I did over the last few days:

  1. Makes me yearn for Gertie! You've done so much with the space in there. Your paintings are very nice, too. Do you do them while you are out? Or from photos once home? I can't wait to show my husband your photos of Alaska! He yearns to return there (not doable now because of his cancer). You and he have the same camera, so he will be doubly interested to see your photographs. I looked at a few, but will wait until he is available to look at the rest because I know he will want to see them. I did see the old truck, and old vehicles are a favorite subjects of his!

Is Stinky a ragdoll? I "met" a ragdoll that looked like him once at an rv park in New Mexico. You can see him here:
